Admissions

Our current pupil admission number is 60 pupils. Our school serves the Stockland Green area but, space permitting, we are happy to take children from surrounding areas. Admissions follow the Birmingham Local Authority Admission's policy and full details are available at www.birmingham.gov.uk/schooladmissions.

Children in Birmingham can start school (Reception class) in the September after their fourth birthday.  For example, if your child was born between 1 September 2019 and 31 August 2020, they will be able to start school in September 2024.

Parents can apply for a place in the Autumn of the year before their child turns 4. You must apply for a place as soon as possible:

  • attendance at a nursery class does not give a child automatic priority for a place
  • do not wait until your child is five years old, or your preferred school may already be full

Please contact the School Office for information about our Open Evenings.

Start dates at Marsh Hill Primary School may be staggered to assist with a rapid settling in period. All children under 5 years old must be toilet trained.

An induction meeting is held during the Summer term when parents are invited to come into the school. The school currently undertakes home visits - prior to the children starting school - in the Summer term, which is a great opportunity for parents to discuss with our staff any concerns or information they need to share with the school. It also familiarises both the child and parents with our staff. Children moving from other schools are sensitively introduced to our systems.

Parents moving into the area are encouraged to come and look around the school and meet the headteacher.

At the age of 11, children transfer to their secondary school. We have close links with the local secondary schools and a transition programme will be in place to assist with the changes children will face. Teachers will always make time available to discuss any issues arising from this process.

Applications

Applications must be made online at www.birmingham.gov.uk/schooladmissions

Pupils usually start school at the start of the school year in September. Sometimes your child will need to start or change school after this because:

  • You move house, either within or into Birmingham.
  • You want your child to change schools for other reasons.

If you have moved house, you will need to fill in an Application for a Change of School In-Year form and take it to your preferred school with proof of address. If you would like a paper copy, please contact the School Office.

If you want to apply for a place outside of Birmingham, you should contact the local authority (Council) for that area.

Admission criteria

Children are admitted to schools in accordance with parental preference as far as possible. However, where there are more applications than there are places available, places at schools will be offered based on the oversubscription criteria.

Oversubscription criteria

  1. Looked after or previously looked after children.
  2. Siblings (brother or sister who will still be in attendance at the time of application)
  3. Distance (children who live nearest the school measured in a straight line).

You have the right to appeal against a decision if your child has been refused a school place.
