Secondary School Transition
We are dedicating this webpage to all of our current Year 6 pupils, parents and carers. Choosing a secondary school in the current circumstances is slightly more challenging than usual due to not being able to visit the schools. This year, many secondary schools have uploaded crucial information to their website, in order to support Year 6 pupils with their transition from primary school to Year 7.
The deadline for your submission of the online application form for a secondary school place in Birmingham, starting in September 2021, is Saturday 31st October 2020. Click here to be redirected to the online application.
Most secondary schools have contacted parents directly if parents have shown an interest in a particular secondary school.
Below, you may find some relevant additional information related to your chosen secondary schools:
Fortis Academy (Great Barr Academy)
Fortis Academy launched as a new academy in September 2020, as part of Shaw Education Trust. The new academy is unique in having two separate academies on one site. Fortis Foundation Academy encompasses year groups 7, 8 and 9. Alongside this, Fortis Senior Academy is dedicated to the provision of year groups 10 – 13.
We have been fortunate this year to have received, into year 7, pupils from your primary school. All of our year 7 pupils have made a good start to their secondary education with us, despite the barriers that this year has provided us all with.
At Fortis, we are aware of the difficult decision process that parents in year 5 and 6 are currently undertaking in relation to choosing a secondary school for their child. We have a virtual Open Evening video that has been produced in order to introduce parents to the new Fortis Academy, with a particular emphasis on Foundation Academy where new year 7 pupils will start in September 2021.
We would therefore like to invite all current year 5 and 6 parents to view this virtual open evening video, along with our online prospectus. We have attached a letter for prospective parents and would appreciate it if this could be made available to your families.
